Overlake Medical Center & Clinics Receives Bariatric Surgery Quality Designation from Aetna
Overlake Medical Center & Clinics is pleased to share it has again been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality® (IOQ) Bariatric Surgery Facility for treating individuals suffering from the disease of obesity.
Aetna makes information about the quality and cost of health care services available to its members to help them make informed decisions about their health care needs. In line with this goal, Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.
“Overlake is honored to be recognized by Aetna for meeting its rigorous selection criteria for designation as an Institute of Quality Bariatric Surgery Facility,” says J. Michael Marsh, Overlake president and CEO. “This is a testament to the commitment of our physicians, nurses and support staff to provide exceptional care to our patients.”
As one of the highest volume bariatric centers in Washington state, Overlake’s Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery program has been the recipient of several accreditations and awards. Our program is a designated Comprehensive Accredited Center by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). This national designation recognizes high volume, multidisciplinary programs with all the required resources to perform complex initial and revisional bariatric procedures.
Our program has also been the recipient of the Healthgrades Bariatric Surgery Excellence Award for five years. This award recognizes programs in the top 10% in the nation. Overlake was the only hospital in Washington state to achieve this award in 2022.
“Aetna’s IOQ designation reflects our team’s dedication to exceed our patients’ expectations for high-quality, safe care” says Thien Nguyen, MD, Overlake director of metabolic and bariatric surgery. “We are proud and honored to be recognized for the high level of care we provide to each of our patients.”
