Healthgrades honors Overlake Medical Center & Clinics as the only hospital in Washington state to achieve the Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award for 3 years in a row
Overlake Medical Center & Clinics again was among the top 5% of hospitals in the nation evaluated by Healthgrades for Gynecologic Surgery excellence. Overlake has achieved this top honor three years in a row (2018–2020).
“Overlake has a tremendously positive reputation in the Puget Sound region. It has served the community since 1960 and brings in world-class providers. This recognition is a testament to our team’s commitment to providing the highest quality and safest care to our community. People love working here and the community is confident they will receive compassionate, innovative, cutting edge care in a caring, warm and safe environment,” said Pamela Paley, MD, gynecologic cancer surgeon at the Overlake Cancer Center.
“The Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award provides healthcare consumers with more transparency about hospitals that have exceptional clinical outcomes in procedures that treat diseases and conditions of the female reproductive system and correct certain conditions of the urinary tract and rectum,” according to Healthgrades, the national leader in independent hospital rankings. Healthgrades evaluates hospitals on their performance for two procedures, hysterectomy and gynecologic procedures (aside from hysterectomies) as well as identifies hospitals with superior performance overall for both types of procedures. They do so by a volume-weighted z-score.
Once Healthgrades determines eligibility for this award, its team evaluates an overall performance score, arranges hospitals in sequential order by performance and identifies the top 10% of all facilities. The top performers are selected to receive the Gynecologic Surgery Excellence Award.
Healthgrades looks for hospitals that “exhibit comprehensive high-quality care,” in comparison to specific areas of expertise and high-quality outcomes in certain areas. Overlake was also distinguished by Healthgrades for better than expected outcomes (a five-star recipient) for Hysterectomy in 2020, which is the sixth consecutive year Overlake has achieved this honor.
Overlake Medical Center & Clinics has achieved multiple awards from Healthgrades for better than expected (5-star) outcomes in cardiac services (Coronary Bypass Surgery), orthopedics (Joint Replacement Excellence), neurosciences (Treatment of Stroke), pulmonary (Treatment of Pneumonia), vascular (Carotid procedures and Peripheral Vascular Bypass), gastrointestinal (Colorectal Surgery and Treatment of Bowel Obstruction), Patient Safety, Gynecologic surgery, and Bariatric surgery. Healthgrades’ mission is to provide trusted information that helps consumers and providers make meaningful connections.
