Bellevue, Wash. – Nearly every family is affected by cancer. While each cancer experience is different, one common thread is hope. That’s why the Cancer Center Auxiliary established its annual Tree of Hope candle lighting ceremony and reception. The public is invited to celebrate the lives of family members and friends who have faced the challenges of cancer by lighting a candle in their honor. The event will be held Tuesday, November 13 at 6 p.m. in the hospital’s main lobby, at 1035 116th Ave NE in Bellevue. All proceeds from the event will support cancer services and patient assistance at Overlake.

At the event, Dr. James G. Pelton, a radiation oncologist from the Cancer Center at Overlake, will share Overlake’s vision for a consolidated Cancer Center that will better integrate cancer services on the Overlake campus and enhance the care experience for patients and their families. “Overlake stands out for going beyond the basics of cancer treatment to really focus on care, compassion and support for our patients and families,” said Dr. Pelton. “We provide many comforting extras to make our patients as comfortable as possible, and have a patient assistance fund to help them through difficult times. We are incredibly grateful for the work the Auxiliaries have done on behalf of our cancer patients and families.”

Recent donations to the Cancer Center Auxiliary have helped patients pay for transportation, out-of-pocket prescription expenses and insurance premiums; provided funding for wigs available at the Cancer Resource Center; as well as provided support for dedicated cancer patient navigators/social workers.
