Our Bills Have Gone Paperless
Effective Jan. 2024, all Overlake Medical Center & Clinics patients with MyChart accounts were opted-in to paperless billing. This means that MyChart users will no longer receive billing statements via standard USPS mail. If you would prefer to receive paper statements, follow these directions for opting out.

Hospital and physician bills along with health insurance claims can be confusing. Our Patient Financial Services team is here to help you make sense of it all.

Accepted Insurance Plans

Overlake Medical Center & Clinics contracts with a number of health plans and insurance carriers for its employed providers and services. Contact your insurer directly to confirm your coverage, deductibles, co-pays and more.

Overlake Hospital Medical Center and Overlake Medical Clinics contract with commercial plans, Medicare FFS & Medicare Advantage plans, Apple Health plans and government plans.

Eastside Health Network

Eastside Health Network is a physician-led, formalized business entity between independent physicians and employed physicians from EvergreenHealth and Overlake Medical Center & Clinics. The network develops and implements evidence-based, data driven clinical initiatives to improve outcomes, increase efficiency and reduce costs in the inpatient and outpatient setting. By sharing data and representing a broad cross-section of the community, EHN negotiates value-based payor contracts as a network in order to align payments and incentives with the performance and quality of the care delivered. How to Get Health Coverage

The Affordable Care Act has provided more opportunities for health insurance coverage through the Washington Health Benefit Exchange. Depending on your income, you may be able to get health coverage for you and your whole family at no cost or low cost. For most people, enrolling is a very simple, very fast process to receive coverage.

Notice to Kaiser Permanente Patients

Effective September 16, 2021, Kaiser Permanente will change its agreement with Pediatrix Medical Group (Mednax Services, Inc.), the physician group that provides neonatology and pediatric intensivist hospital-based services at Overlake’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This means Pediatrix will be out of network for Kaiser patients, and neonatology and pediatric intensivist hospital-based services will be billed at out-of-network rates.

However, Washington state’s Balance Billing Protection Act prevents patients from getting a surprise medical bill when they receive emergency care from any hospital or if they have a scheduled procedure at an in-network facility and receive care from an out-of-network provider. Please read the Standard Consumer Notice of Surprise Billing Rights for details.

Opting Out of Paperless Billing

Effective Jan. 2024, paperless billing became the default setting for Overlake MyChart users. However, patients can still opt-in to receive paper statements. If you would prefer to receive paper statements, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Log in to your MyChart account.
  • Icons with different menu options will appear at the top of the screen. For web users, move your mouse to the “Billing” icon and you should see a new menu appear.
  • Click on “Billing Acct. Summary.”
  • Below the bill details will appear and you will see a sentence that reads, “If you would like to receive paper statements, you may cancel paperless billing.” Select the highlighted words that say, “Cancel Paperless Billing.”
  • On the new screen that appears, click the green button that reads, “Receive Paper Statements.”
  • Mobile application users can click the “Billing” icon and click the link towards the bottom of the page that reads, “Cancel Paperless Billing.” Users will be asked to confirm their selection before it can be completed.

Frequently Asked Questions – Patients

What does it mean when you say transitioning to paperless statements?
For Overlake MyChart users who are the guarantor* of an account(s), the default will now be set to paperless billing statements. This means that billing statements will be sent via MyChart and no longer through standard USPS mail. Patients who prefer to receive paper statements can easily log in to MyChart and return the default to paper statements.

* Guarantor is the person or entity responsible for paying the balance of an account.

What if I want to continue receiving paper statements?
Resuming paper statements is easy. You will need to opt out of paperless statements, which can be done via the MyChart mobile app or the MyChart website. View the section above titled "Opting Out of Paperless Billing" for opting out of paperless statements.

What happens if I don’t realize I have a statement ready in MyChart and miss the due date?
At 120 days past due, Overlake has procedures in place to reach out via phone or standard mail for accounts with outstanding balances. You will also receive multiple emails to ensure you have seen your outstanding amount.

What if I try paperless statements and don’t like it? Can I return to paper statements?
Yes, you can opt out of receiving paperless statements at any time. View the section above titled "Opting Out of Paperless Billing" for opting out of paperless statements.

I have both hospital and physician bills. Will both be transitioned to paperless statements/billing?
Yes, hospital and physician bills will now be paperless for those who are the guarantor of a MyChart account.

I am still receiving paper bills from Overlake services such as radiology, hospitalists, lab or emergency room physicians. I thought all bills would be paperless?
There are specific departments that Overlake contracts with outside groups to provide services, including but not limited to emergency room and radiology physicians. For any of these providers that are outside of Overlake, you will continue to receive paper statements.
