Trimester Check-list

At Overlake Medical Center & Clinics, we are here as your trusted partner on this incredible journey, providing exceptional care and support tailored specifically to your needs as an expectant mother. Our mission is to ensure that you and your baby receive the utmost care and attention throughout your pregnancy.
To help you prepare for this wonderful milestone, we have created a comprehensive step-by-step prenatal guide. With our trimester-by-trimester calendar, you can stay organized and on track as you navigate the different stages of pregnancy. From attending classes that cover everything from pregnancy to childbirth, scheduling appointments, and more – our goal is to make sure you feel supported every step of the way.
*While we suggest the following timeline for our childbirth preparation classes, they can be taken at any time during your pregnancy.
First Trimester
- Choose your doctor or midwife.
- Schedule prenatal visits with your doctor or midwife.
- Register for prenatal classes:
- Healthy Pregnancy, Healthy Baby: This free class prepares newly expectant families for the journey through pregnancy.
- Yoga for Pregnancy: Practice breathing exercises, easy postures and guided meditation in this six-week, prenatal yoga series. Real-time, interactive instruction.
Second Trimester
- Register for important baby care and prenatal classes:
- Understanding Your Newborn: This class will prepare you to care for your newborn with fun, interactive, and informative instruction including diapering, bathing, soothing baby and more. Self-guided course or in-person. Also offered on-demand (online) in Spanish.
- Breastfeeding Basics: Essential information to help prepare you for breastfeeding.
- Infant CPR & First Aid: For expectant and new parents, grandparents and family members. Completion cards not awarded.
- Continue taking or consider joining Yoga for Pregnancy.
- Continue prenatal visits.
- Regular doctor visits are important as you take care of your new baby. Choosing a primary care provider who best fits your family’s needs is the first step to your newborn’s good health. Your child’s doctor will likely become a trusted partner and advisor.

Third Trimester
- Continue prenatal visits.
- View a virtual tour of the Childbirth Center.
- Register for birthing classes:
- Understanding Birth: This class is designed to give you an overview of the third trimester, labor, birth and postpartum healing. Real-time, interactive instruction offered in-person or virtually. Also offered on-demand (online) in Spanish.
- Labor Coping Skills: Learn and practice comfort measures and positions to use while laboring at home and in the hospital.
- Continue taking or consider joining Yoga for Pregnancy.
- Preregister your delivery at the hospital online.
- If you desire a circumcision for your baby after delivery, schedule your baby’s circumcision ahead of the birth to ensure a timely appointment. All circumcisions are done outpatient. Please view our community circumcision resources.
- Schedule a Car Seat Inspection to make sure your child's car seat is installed correctly. In partnership with Seattle Children's.
Fourth Trimester (After Baby Arrives)
- Attend your postpartum follow-up visit.
- Schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant, if needed.
- Stay connected the first year after at the Parent & Baby Care Center.
- Attend post-partum support groups:
- After Baby Comes (ABC): A group for new parents to talk about feeding, sleeping and navigating the complexities of parenthood. Weekly, real-time meetings. Classes divided by baby’s age:
- 0–3 months, Tuesdays, 10–11am: Free.
- 3–6 months, Tuesdays, 2–3pm: Free.
- 6–12 months, Tuesdays, noon–1pm: Free.
- Balance After Baby: Postpartum support group for new parents experiencing feelings of sadness or anxiety. Real-time, interactive meetings. Free.
- Pumping Strategies: Recommended for moms returning to work or who are continuing to provide breast milk for their baby through pumping. Free.
- Yoga & Strength: After Birth & Beyond: Practice breathing exercises, restorative postures and guided meditation in this six-week, postpartum yoga series. Real-time, interactive instruction.
- Pelvic Floor Power Up: Led by a Pelvic Floor Physical Therapist, this class is designed for moms who have recently given birth and wish to progress their total body strength with an emphasis on pelvic floor recovery. You must be at least 6 weeks postpartum to join class.
- After Baby Comes (ABC): A group for new parents to talk about feeding, sleeping and navigating the complexities of parenthood. Weekly, real-time meetings. Classes divided by baby’s age:
