Inside Out Apple Pie: The Guilt-Free Thanksgiving Dessert
Enjoy a healthier twist on a fall classic with this inside out apple pie recipe. Packed with apples, warm spices, and a boost of protein, it’s a simple, guilt-free dessert. Serve it warm with ice cream or chilled with Greek yogurt—either way, it’s sure to be a holiday hit. Happy baking!
Ingredients:
- 6 cups or 2 ¼ pounds apples (mix three varieties like Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, and a red/green type like Gala, Pink Lady, Braeburn, or Fuji).
- 1 tbsp. lemon juice (optional).
- 2 tbsp. whole wheat flour.
- ½ tsp. cinnamon (or to taste).
- ½ tsp. nutmeg (or to taste).
- 1⁄3 cup raisins.
- ½–1 package low-sugar, high protein apple cinnamon oatmeal (such as Kodiak or Quaker brands).
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Core, peel and thinly slice all of the apples.
- Place in a large bowl.
- If desired, add lemon juice.
- Stir in the flour, spices, raisins and oatmeal and mix well.
- Transfer apple mixture to an 8x8" baking dish sprayed with cooking spray.
- Bake 20–25 minutes or until apples are soft enough to slice easily.
- Cool completely.
- Store in airtight container in your fridge.
- Serve warm or cold on its own, over ice cream or plain, Greek yogurt.
