Heart Failure Management Program
An award-winning team with decades of experience, here to listen to your specific needs, provide personalized care and help you live life to the fullest.
Heart failure is a scary diagnosis. But it does not mean that your heart is “failing” completely—it means that it is not pumping as well as it should. This can happen for many reasons including heart attack, heart valve problems, coronary artery disease and genetic heart conditions.
At Overlake Medical Center & Clinics, we’ll work with you to help get your heart pumping as strongly as possible. We’ll create a care plan tailored to your specific needs, to help you live as full a life as possible. Our Heart Failure Management Program is led by a nurse practitioner who has provided specialized care for heart failure for more than 20 years. Our program has received quality care awards from the American Heart Association, underscoring our ability to provide expert and compassionate care.
Diagnosing, treating and managing heart failure
We’ll use the latest tools to get to the root of your symptoms and determine whether heart failure is the cause. Diagnostic tests for heart failure include:
- Echocardiograms to take pictures of your heart
- Coronary angiograms or CT scans to identify specific causes of heart failure
- Cardiac MRIs that take highly detailed pictures of your heart and allow doctors to study your heart’s structure and how it pumps blood
We care for people experiencing all types and stages of heart failure. Treatments include:
- Lifestyle changes including eating a low-sodium diet, regularly exercising and maintaining a healthy weight
- Medications to help make it easier for the heart to pump
- Medications to help the body eliminate extra fluids
- Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), tiny devices placed inside the chest that regularly check the heartbeat and restore a regular heart rhythm, when needed
- Surgery, if blocked arteries or damaged heart valves are causing heart failure
In addition to treatment, you’ll have access to ongoing care and monitoring. Our specialized nurses are available to support you as you navigate heart failure and provide care for every aspect of your heart health.
