Meet Jon Duarte, Overlake’s New President and CEO
Jon Duarte joined Overlake Medical Center & Clinics in April 2014 and was appointed president and CEO of Overlake and CEO of MultiCare’s new North Sound Region on Jan. 18, 2025.
During his tenure at Overlake, Jon oversaw the expansion of clinical partnerships and specialty programs that resulted in unprecedented growth for the healthcare system. His strategic oversight drove Overlake’s recent affiliation with MultiCare Health System, ushering in an exciting, new era for healthcare in our region.
We sat down with Jon to learn more about him and Overlake’s exciting future.
Q: Why did you join Overlake?
A: I joined Overlake in 2014, looking for an opportunity to apply my skills and experience to make a positive impact on the delivery of patient care. What I found was a beloved health system providing remarkable care—and an Overlake community where I could be a part of a dynamic team and make a difference.
It’s a tremendous privilege to lead and serve this outstanding organization. What began as a community movement to serve Bellevue’s basic healthcare needs is now a health system that delivers some of the most advanced, highest quality care in the Puget Sound region—to 200,000 individuals each year. The work that we do every day changes our patients’ lives for the better.
Q: Can you share a little about your background?
A: I arrived in the Pacific Northwest from Miami, Florida, by way of Atlanta, Georgia. My first job in healthcare was in high school as an intern for an orthopedic surgeon, doing a clinical research project on his behalf. Best of all, I got to observe many of his surgeries, which I found fascinating. The experience cemented my interest in pursuing a career in healthcare.
Before joining Overlake, I worked for a healthcare organization in Atlanta and then as a management consultant advising hospitals and health systems on a variety of topics, including strategy, operations and clinical program development. I joined Overlake in 2014 as the director of strategy and in 2018, I became chief strategy officer and was heavily involved in a number of pivotal efforts, including Project FutureCare, partnerships with EvergreenHealth and Fred Hutch Cancer Center, digital transformation, expansion of Overlake Clinics, and ultimately the affiliation with MultiCare.
Outside of work, I am passionate about my family and fishing.
Q: What is special about Overlake?
A: I have also personally experienced our skilled, compassionate care, from the birth of one of my daughters, to a family member’s open-heart surgery, and much in between. The care we provide is different. It is exceptional. I want more people throughout the Puget Sound region to experience Overlake and the care that we all deliver.
Q: What can our team expect now that you are in the CEO role?
A: First, the reason we are here—to provide outstanding and safe, compassionate care to our community—remains our core purpose. All Overlake team members are stewards of this mission. Everything we do will continue to be guided by our mission and our values.
We will continue to focus on important efforts in planning for our future as part of the MultiCare Health System. This includes applying best practices to become a higher performing, more resilient healthcare system. It also includes intensive planning for how we will best serve our patients and achieve our vision where Overlake is the definitive leading healthcare delivery system in the North Sound Region.
Q: What are your thoughts on Overlake’s future?
A: What I know with certainty is that Overlake’s future is bright. Working together with our team and community, and harnessing our collective wisdom, we will continue to excel in clinical quality, safety, patient satisfaction and employee engagement—while growing and continuously improving.
I am truly excited to work alongside our great team in shaping an even brighter future for Overlake, where we will continue to provide exceptional, compassionate care to our community for years to come.
